I am loving these new bib necklaces, they're perfect for the holidays!

Stock up on one or two to wear to any festive celebration or even a date! Pair with a plain white tee and black blazer with skinny jeans and heels for date night or a casual holiday celebration. Wear with a simple sheath dress to add that extra sparkle. The only rule is don't wear it on an open neck, they're meant to be worn on top of clothing so make sure the neckline is higher.

Happy Shopping!

How to do the "Red Lips" look right!

What looks more glamorous than red lipstick! Especially around the holidays this look is a very popular hit. To get the look right takes skill, it really bugs me when people get it wrong so here's the rules:
1) When wearing red lips, eyes are simple! There will be absolutely NO bright or dark colors on the eye.
2) To get the simple eye look you want to play up lashes! Simply apply your eyeshadow base (a must always) then apply a shimmery champagne to the the lid with a very light vanilla matte on the brow bone. If desired follow with a matte or shimmery light brown or gold in the crease or light brown matte in the corner of the eye. Line the eyes with black liner, you can make the top liner thicker and even cat eye. Again, you want to play up the lashes. Apply mascara or false lashes for an awesome look.
3) For blush apply a neutral tone blush or (bronzer without glitter) DO NOT use a bright hot pink!
4) For the lips first start by applying the lipstick very carefully, follow with liner (the reason I have liner second and not first is that the liner will wear off with the lipstick so you don't have a liner line.) Follow with a gloss on top!
5) Very very few people can pull off the smokey eye in conjunction with a red lip like the Bond girl from "Casino Royale" pictured middle. Don't attempt unless you look like her: ) It's just too much makeup and it will come off that way.
6) Inspiration: Look like Sienna Miller or Taylor Swift pictured above.

Holiday Dressing!

It's that time of year when Holiday parties abound, so now what do you wear!

My recommendations start with sequin sparkles, what better time of year and probably only time you have an excuse to wear sequins (except in Vegas of course) so go out and get a glam gold or black dress (please no other colors). The dress pictured middle is from Phillip Lim and absolutely a gorgeous cut, I like a flowy cut with sequins it updates the look a little. If you can't afford Phillip Lim, Arden B makes the great gold dress with a flowy bow. You can get the little black sequin dress at Dillards, I like this dress because it is fitted and cut short but covers you up top. That's the key, if you go short you don't go low cut. As I've recommended before, one shoulders are a beautiful option for any formal occasion, try a dress in a jewel tone for a perfect holiday look like the Blue dress pictured by Adrianna Papell at Nordstroms. I love the one shoulder with a long sleeve too! So sophisticated! Try this one in black from Lucca Couture available at Nordstroms. For shoes to go with sequined dresses wear coordinating gold strappy sandal or a plum or red satin pump. For black sequin try a nude patent pump. Keep accessories simple when wearing a sequin dress.

Rent a Look!

What girl hasn't dreamed of wearing Herve Leger or Diane Von Furstenberg...unfortunately it's not a reality for many of us, but now weartodaygonetomorrow.com is making that dream a reality! For 5-10% of the retail price you can borrow designer tops, dresses, skirts, or jackets. I love this idea because I always want to wear a new dress anytime I have an event to go to and this way you can actually make that happen without breaking the bank! You just pay a small fee to clean the dress and you usually return your item within a week. This Holiday season can be a lot more stylish with these designers at your fingertips! Check it out!

Make a Statement!

This holiday season is the perfect time to wear the "statement necklace"
trend. These over-the-top accessories can really punch up an outfit.
Try wearing one with a basic sheath dress and sassy heels, keep the
rest of the look simple so the necklace really stands out. I recommend
wearing simple earrings or just a cocktail ring with the necklace because
you don't want to look gaudy. A statement necklace can also be the answer
to putting a new spin on an old dress for all you recessionistas! Happy Shopping!

Watch This!

Everyone needs a watch and if you a freak like me you need several: ) I love watches especially big chunky watches. Micheal Kors has been making really cute timepieces for reasonable prices. You know you've lusted after the Chanel J12 of course who hasn't, well Micheal Kors makes a ceramic piece that looks like the J12 for a fraction of the price and they're well made (see black and white versions pictured above.) I also love the gold watch he made, it's classic, a must have! For fun try the Toy watch pictured above in purple, they come in really fun neon colors. (All watches available at Nordstrom)

Get Leggy!

Ladies get ready to show off your gams! Well your gams in boots that is. This season fall inlove with over the knee boots. Try out this daring trend in different variations depending on your taste. For the workplace, the boots pictured top middle by Free People would look great with jeans and a sweater. For going out and if you've got some dolla bills to spend, try the boots pictured far left by L.A.M.B. gorgeous! These boots are pretty versatile but I wouldn't recommend wearing them with those cool liquid leggings, lest you look like catwoman. Try the boots pictured top right by Dolce Vita, my personal pick for day and night. Of course wear with pencil dress pants or skinny jeans. They would also look great with leggings and a tunic sweater as well!

Military Jackets: Salute!

Military inspired jackets are so hip and so cute for fall. I like a military jacket paired with skinny jeans and booties or heels. The jacket gives formality with a twist to any outfit so try wearing it more dressed down. The don't wear with rules are: Don't wear the same colored dress pants as your jacket or wear red, white, and blue all at once. Like any trend you just want one piece of it to mix in with the rest of your look. Try adding a scarf for extra and extra pop of color. (Jacket far left:Trina Turk-Piperlime. Left: Forver 21)

The Shoulders Have It!

Shoulders have been getting more and more exaggerated until we have once again found ourselves reminiscing the 80's. This look is growing on me but I haven't seen a lot of it in the mass market yet so be on the lookout and be among the first to rock the trend. I really like this look in a short dress like the one on Blake Lively pictured above, the rising hemlines update this look. I also like the look in a jacket but I like the jacket (pictured: sportmax notte) or dress to be fitted to give the sharp shoulders a nice dimensional look. Try it out!

Get familiar with the "Snood"

This season I am loving the snood! Part hood part scarf this look is so now! You'll probably be seeing more and more of this look and hopefully you can find an inexpensive snood as well as the always perfect Burberry option. The three snoods pictured are all Burberry and although they are a little expensive, it's totally a wardrobe staple you'll wear for years to come. Try out the snood this season and keep warm and cozy come winter!

A Frightening Fashion Don't!

And now ladies, a fashion don't! This fall you may see these larger than life animal tees and honestly I'm not loving it. I don't see how wearing a tee shirt featuring King Kong about to eat everyone that walks by you is fashion, not everything trendy is trend worthy so please for the sake of small children don't buy a shirt like this. There are plenty of hot trends this fall so skip this one and move on to the next!

Zip it up!

Zippers are so hot this season. You can find zippered looks everywhere from Bloomingdale's to Forever 21. Zippers go along with the "tough" looks that we've seen a lot of already, zippers have become more than just functional; you'll notice that zippers are very visible on clothing or they're the detailing on skirts, leggings, and tops. I particularly like this trend on bright skirts that have very visible zippers on the back. Of course wear only one zippered item at a time, i.e. don't wear leggings with zippered sides and a top with a zipper down the middle.

Fall Nail Polish Trends

Fall fashion trends extend to your nails too so don't forget to stock up on some fun new polishes.

I love painting my fingers dark hues in the fall and winter. This fall/winter purples are very in! I suggest the two shades pictured left by O.P.I. in Parlez-vous a lavender grey and Give-me-Moor a dark purpley hue. Navy polish was huge last fall and it's still pretty now, try Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees a navy with a gray tint. I really like grayish shades for this fall too, it's very edgy. If you're really looking to be trendy this season, try "matte about you" a matte finish topcoat. It sounds weird but going matte adds an unexpected finish for our normally glossy tips.

Unleash the Animal!

That's right ladies! This season leopard is the "it" pattern. If you haven't already, you will see it everywhere this fall. Go ahead and dive in and add this staple to your wardrobe. I say staple because I already have leopard as I assume many of you do, but if what you have in leopard is from five years ago and it's a midriff shirt throw it out and grab something in a fresh updated look. Try leopard in a dress, I really like it in a sheath cut or sleek or bubbled skirt as shown above in the dress by Dolce Gabbana and this cute tulip skirt from 7 for all Mankind. For a top I like this one shoulder piece by Alice and Olivia. Off the shoulder or open shoulder cutouts are very in, so you can do two trends in one with this! I don't care what anyone else says don't wear red with this, it looks like blood. Happy Shopping!

Hot Pink Look!

I am loving this look right now; hot pink lips and bold black lined eyes! So hot, so trendy! As you can see by the pics I've posted this look is awesome on those with a darker complexion but never fear, blondes can pull it off too! Do your face makeup as usual and give yourself a healthy glow with bronzer. Also shade your cheekbones with a bronzer rather than blush because with such a bold lip you don't want to have your cheeks too bright. Line the eyes with a pencil or liquid in black (liquid is better for making that cat eye) dust a light bronze shadow on your lids and finish off with the bold pink lipstick. Don't put too much gloss on the lips just a touch will do!

Fall into Fashion!

The September Issues:

You may already be aware but for the fashion newbies, the September issues of most magazines are chock full of fall fashion. Most notable Vogue has the huge September issue but there are others too, like InStyle! I love looking through the magazines of this month and tabbing pages that have merchandise I'm going to lust over. So, my point is that if you want to get ahead of the fall fashions and start your fall wardrobe list, start here:

I usually make a list for each fashion season and I'll probably start shopping in late September or early October. I generally don't shop in late July or August because it's too early to look at coats and boots when it's raging hot outside. When looking through these fashion bibles, take your time and if you're looking to add a few new trendy pieces to your closet I like to look at a layout or ad and just identify what it is that they are showing otherwise it can be overwhelming.

Then take a look at your closet and see what you need to add. I suggest splurging on things like coats, shoes, and bags and try to save on trendy tops and pants. My basic rule is, if it's classic it's worth the money because you'll wear it year after year if it's trendy don't spend too much because chances are you'll be over it by next fall.

Go out and get your September issues and make your list! Happy Shopping!

Neon, Neon!

I am loving this hot neon trend
right now! Neon is big this season
so if you have to cocktail, do it in
this amazing hue. First, you have to
be tan ladies, if you're not spray it!
Check out Blake Lively pictured far
right, the tan sets the color off. I like this trend in a simple sheath cut with a statement necklace as in the Micheal Kors outfit pictured top middle. I also really like the dress pictured with a ruffle from Marciano, it gives a little twist for a party option. Avoid looking like a highlighter by sticking to one neon piece at a time. Pair this dress with tan pumps like the ones from Jessica Simpson pictured bottom right, and look fabulous!
