Hey ladies, one of the most dreaded or for me fun; ) tasks is jean shopping! You may struggle with where to even start with so many choices of styles and washes it can be overwhelming so here's an idea of where to start:
First, determine what body style you have. Then determine the styles that will most likely flatter your figure. Then decide what kind of wash you would like.
Curvy: If you're an hourglass or a pear shape. You have full hips and maybe full thighs with a tiny mid section.
Your problem-you might find that you have trouble getting jeans wide enough for your thighs and then find that when you do the waist is too big.
Solution/Goal- You may find you want to slim and balance your proportions. The best jean types for you are: Bootcut, Trouser fit, Wide leg, or Flares. A bit of a wider flare at the bottom will balance out your fuller hips and make you look shapely. Try and find jeans with a slightly higher rise and some stretch to solve your "too big in the waist" dilemma. At LUXE we can custom alter your waist so you get the perfect fit. Avoid washes that are lighter in the hip area or whiskered. Darker washes will give you a slimming effect.
Petite: If you're 5'4" and slim you are probably a petite.
Your problem-You may find that you are always having to hem your pants and everything is too long and/or too large for your body.
Solution/Goal-Try and seek out "petite" cuts! They do exist, premium denim makers make lengths more appropriate for your height and not only that, the whole jean is in better proportions ie. knee cuts are in the right spots. You may consider lower rises, as you probably have a shorter torso. Try straight leg or skinny jeans as they don't require as much alteration in the length. Avoid crops or anything too wide, you want to give the appearance of being taller. At LUXE we can alter any jean to fit our petite ladies.
Athletic/Boyish: If you lack curves and have a more square body shape.
Your problem: Lack of curves or looking too thin.
Solution/Goal: Try highlighting any curves you may have by wearing skinny jeans, straight leg jeans, or flares. Try lighter washes or washes with fading as these will enhance your bottom and hip area.
Tall: If you're tall you your shape probably falls into one of the previous categories, your other consideration will be that you have trouble finding jeans long enough. Try "Super model length" a new cut from premium denim makers that have 36" inseams or longer!
Pocket Guide:
Flap- will enhance smaller backsides.
High-drawa the bottom upwards.
Far apart-wide set give the appearance of wider hips.
Low pockets-draw the eye down , may make tush look bigger.
No pockets-No, no.

FALL FABULOUS!
OOOooo yay! All the fall fashion mags are out and I've devoured every page to find out what all the fab trends will be!
1) JEWEL TONES! Sparkle in all your favorite gems tones; ruby, emerald, jade, citrine, sapphire! They're coming out in all kinds of ways from jeans and cords to clutches and even nail polish. I must say I am most obsessed with Ruby and Emerald and am already clamoring for the perfect handbag in those colors. Also try Ruby red trousers to kick up your daily 9-5 look.
2) LADY LIKE HANDBAGS! Yes they're still here, they first made an appearance last Fall but they're still here and for good reason, with classic lines and finishes they're a timeless choice in all that's trendy. Try them in a fun animal leather or color to punch it up!
3) LEOPARD-Ok sure leopard is always "in" in some capacity but this Fall you MUST have a purse with calf or pony hair leopard and a pair of shoes (I have 3 already!) it gives everything that extra pop of trendy!
4) LOAFER PUMPS- Menswear meets women's pumps- these fab shoes appeared in the year's vogue but I didn't see too many out for the masses until this year and I'm stoked! I have always loved loafer-like shoes. Try these in patent finishes!
NOTHING NEW- BUT we're seeing some of the same trends for last year back in a bigger way!
1) FLARES and TROUSERS-We see this continue throughout fall which is great because they add extra polish to the more structured fall looks. Try the flare in a new fabric way like corduroy.
2) Menswear inspired- I don't even think it's men's wear per se, just all the tweed, trenches, and wool fabrics appear every fall WHICH WE LOVE! Mix in one of this Fall's "IT" jewel colors for fresh take on an old classic. Menswear inspired shorts are really in full force this year so definitely pick those up!
3) FUR-or for animal lovers like myself FAUX FUR! It's still here, definitely get yourself a vest if you didn't last year, if you already have one grab something new like a full faux fur coat or sweater with fur details. (Not in small puffs though-ew that's gross.)
4) CHUNKY KNITS-Duh yes, every fall/winter we ALL love a chunky knit. Try a cute cable knit and pair with menswear inspired shorts and do monochromatic shoes and tights!
5) "Middie" as opposed to Maxi or mini skirts are in but I'm not super stoked about that look so take it or leave it.
6) SOUTHWEST PRINTS-we saw them this Spring but they continue in cute sweaters for Fall, I DO love this and it's a "DO" only one at a time please.

Color Me Denim!
What do you think of the colored denim trend? Personally it's growing on me as I've ordered my first pair of cherry red skinny jeans! I think this is a really fun trend for the summer. Also going into Fall I'm seeing a lot of the same however in more muted hues and earth tones. Try pairing your crayon bright jeans with something more toned down like a cute graphic tee or a striped top and flats. Or go a dressier route and do a black blazer or a black sequined top and heels! Try to keep the rest of your look simple since you already have a lot going on the bottom! Happy Shopping!

Blushing Blush!
Check out the newest color for Spring, you may have noticed this pale hue on some of your favorite celebrities and now it's everywhere! This shade is so subtly beautiful but it can definitely be hard to wear. Here are some helpful tips to wearing blush; get a spray tan! No doubt this color looks great on olive skin complexions but that's no reason us pale ladies can't rock it as well, so go get yourself a spray tan! What colors pair well with blush- try gray, charcoal, black, and my favorite camel or nude! I like to wear jewelry in rose gold or gold hue to warm up the shade. Keep your makeup simple-go for a smokey eye or a bold pink lip!

Wear with Flare!
This Spring stores are ablaze with the latest trend in denim; the flare! Some of you may still be wearing these skipping right over the skinny trend so guess what now they're back; )
My style suggestions for this trend are; purchase a dark to medium dark, with slight wear if you want a lighter look for Spring. Darker washes will make you look longer and leaner. You must, must, must make sure they are long enough and be wary the seamstress who hems them too short. This jean must bend at the top of the foot and graze the heel on your shoe. I like the flare to fit me through the thigh so you really get an exaggerated effect. This style is perfect for you JLo body-type ladies out there because it really gives balance to your curvaceous body! It also works great for those of you looking for a nicer jean to wear to work as many of the premium brands offer a "trouser style" fit. I suggest wearing these jeans with very tall wood wedges, totally on trend! As for tops, pair with all the great feminine flowy blouses found everywhere this season! Tuck and belt and rock it!

Must Have Fall Shoes!

Best Style Tips EVER-From InStyle Mag!
So I didn't make these up but I have to share them with my followers! If you're not a subscriber def get on board. I think I've been reading this magazine since I was 12! It's great! I hightlighted the ones I think are of utmost importance and added comments; )
Pick the Right Fabric-The two most important qualities to look for in fabric are weight and movement. If a fabric is too stiff, it can look boxy; too thin, and it may cling to every bulge. Wool crepe, wool microfiber blends, cotton or wool gabardine and cotton blended with silk are generally good choices.
Work with Proportion -Your clothes may fit properly, but if you don't get the proportions right, you'll still be off the mark. Choose looks that are either "short over long" or "long over short." Think: a cropped jacket over a knee-length shift, or a long jacket with skinny pants, or a tunic over a shorter pencil skirt
Invest in Quality Fabric -The adage "You get what you pay for" is gospel with fabric. Cheap fabrics tend to be less flattering, while higher-quality fabrics look better, last longer and hold their shape.
Consider Patterns-When it comes to patterns, think about color and size. Tonal patterns (pink on red, say) attract less attention, and the darker the background, the more slimming the design.
Avoid Excessive Details-Too many can create a questionable overall look, date your clothes, minimize and outfit's versatility and make your look heavier. I agree with this totally especially when dealing with jewelry! The New Tees!
I am in love with boyfriend, off the shoulder, and cut out shoulder tees! These updates on an old favorite, our reliable tee shirt have given us a new reason to go sloppy!
The boyfriend tee is so cute with cutoff shorts, capris, and of course jeans! Make sure the fit is right, resist the urge to try and make it fit. It's supposed to be slouchy. Don't go overboard with the look; balance it out with skinny jeans or the cutoffs but don't pair with anything baggy! (Try the one pictured above by Alternative Apparel at boutiqueforyou.com)
The off the shoulder tee can be worn with a different colored cami just peeking out and some leggings or jeggings! Totally 80's flashback but I still love it! I am also loving (don't hate me) tie dye looking jeans with distressing. (This off shoulder tee can be found at harmonylane.com)
The cutout shoulder tee is so hot, so now! I have found many varieties. You can dress it up or dress it down depending on the fabric and embellishments! I love this one pictured, found at bluefly.com would look great with white skinny jeans!

Alternative Skinnys!
I'm really into this new trend in skinnys, the moto pant and cargos
which are different twists on the jean favorite. The first is the
Houlihan by J Brand pictured left. This skinny cargo is a celebrity favorite!
Wear with a feminine top to balance the masculinity and some heels or gladiators.
I've been seeing alot of this moto style jean for Fall too in all kinds of fabrics
from jeans to ponte fabric! Wear these like you would wear any of your other skinnys but
I would definitely wear with heels!

Printed Blouses!
This spring I am really into these techno printed blouses! They are so now! Wear these with chic simple black dress shorts and flats or heels. You could also wear them with white or black distressed skinny jeans. I like the idea of balancing the femininity with distressed jeans but I think stick to white or black. Keep accessories simple as the blouse has a lot going on. The blouse on the bottom is from Stella McCartney so it will run up your credit card bill but you can find great blouses at asos.com too like the one pictured on the top just make sure the fabric is light and "flowy" and not at all stiff.

Please STOP:
1) Wearing Dansko's-unless you're a nurse or you're on your feet all day for your job do not wear these. They are not for fashion. No I don't care if they are leopard print or patent leather! Save them for wearing with your scrubs!
2) Wearing Ed Hardy-I know I told you all before but I just wanted to reiterate.
3) Wearing outfits that are wrong for your body type. If you're boxy wear a belt to accentuate your waistline, if you're very thin wear all the cute blousey tops that are in right now. If you're overweight you can still dress trendy and feel comfortable at the same time, look for longer tops and forgiving ruffle accents.
4) Saying I'm too old to wear that. Yes, it is important to know how to dress your age but just because you're "middle aged" doesn't mean you have to dress like a frump, it takes skill to know how to incorporate a trend into your wardrobe so get some magazines and some fashionable friends and figure it out. Don't just give up or you'll look like you did!
Fashion is fun, experiment and say yes!

Oscars! Fashion Hits and Misses
It's Oscar time-all the gorgeous, relevant, and not to mention talented stars descend onto the red carpet and we will be judging...the fashion!
Hit:
Sandra Bullock-Gold hot! This molten dress was a perfect fit for the event! She also happens to be my top pick for makeup-she looked drop dead gorgeous in a red lip and subtle sparkly eyes that paired perfectly with her shiny, almost raven hair.
J-Lo-I know, I know I still like it! Jennifer Lopez looked top notch tonight. Many a star have tried dresses with a futuristic twist and I think J-Lo got it spot on! A little feminine with a twist of interesting fashion forward detailing.
Penelope Cruz-Love, love this burgundy hued dress! Granted she has that amazing olive skin tone but this dress was cut beautifully and was my top pick for the night. I think to be best dressed you have to wear something fitting for the event, cut to fit you, and old Hollywood glamour with a nod to high fashion-She was all of those tonight!
Kristen Stewart-I really thought the dress was very "Oscars" but maybe too old for Kristen.
Miley Cyrus-I really liked this dress, again maybe not for Miley but I thought it was very, very pretty. Loving the nude tones (on people whose skin tone is a shade darker than their dress.)
Miss:
Charlize Theron-What? Two roses on over the breast area...need I say more?
Mariah Carey- " I just bought this off the rack at Dillards"-This is the Oscars-put down the champagne and step it up!
Zoe Saldana-Umm no-She is sooo beautiful, I would have loved to see her get it right tonight but sadly this dust feather rendition with ombre is not cutting it.
Sarah Jessica Parker-Our fashion diva! I'm so sad I didn't love it tonight; she's always usually so fresh and updated that we all follow trend! Tonight I did not love the dress, the color wasn't right when I see that color I think "cheap" don't get me wrong I know it's Chanel but it was a miss! Also, her hair was kind of a mess yes? I did happen to notice a new trend: flyaways hmm...
I feel like a lot of people played it very safe tonight with dresses that I felt like we've seen before. Kudos to the ladies who got it right!

I feel like a lot of people played it very safe tonight with dresses that I felt like we've seen before. Kudos to the ladies who got it right!

What to Wear for Valentine's Date Night?
Looking for the perfect outfit for Valentine's? We have options ladies. First, it is kind of chilly so if you don't want to wear a dress or skirt you can wear some cute skinny jeans with a sexy maybe lacy (lingerie) inspired top with a cute cardigan or wrap. If you want to go all out with a dress do it up in red, pink, purple, or black! You can wear black tights and ankle boots or heels (depending on how much snow you have in your area: )

Golden Globes: Love it or Hate it
So, something new here I've never blogged about an awards show and one might say "who is she to criticize" well I am here to say what is hot and what is not and I don't care: )
Ok so who was hot:
Jennifer Aniston- Whoa I was loving that black dress. True Jennifer always plays it safe but it pays off! Sometimes classic elegance can't be beat, she looked gorgeous albeit the slit was a little too high.
Sophia Loren: Loved the retro sweetheart neck black dress. Could have done without the full length sleeves but overall a pretty "old Hollywood" dress.
Emily Blunt and Heidi Klum: Love the pretty monotone "ish" dress hues they look pretty, delicate, and feminine.
I liked Courtney Cox too. I think black takes the night!
Kate Hudson: White hot? I didn't know if I liked this or not, it was really pretty but there was something that I didn't like maybe it was the white shoes? It kind of reminded me of a cake topper. I guess I give it a yay, it was pretty.
Also notable: Olivia Wilde's gorgeous sequin dress and Penelope Cruz's black lace creation.
Oh no she didn't-Not hot:
Drew Barrymore: Not all bad here, I loved the color of the dress but I did not like the poof on the hip. If they had left just the shoulder poof it would have been perfect but alas they did not and it ended up looking a bit more star trek that starstruck.
Julia Roberts: We are at an awards show, not a daytime wedding. Dress for the occasion!
Julianne Moore: Bad, bad... It looks like she tore up piece of her carpet to drape around her shoulders not to mention it didn't fit right?
Chloe Sevigny-Ugh really bad, she looked like a meringue dancer only worse, more pale!
Zoe Saldana-This burgundy frock ended up looking like she took some Victorian drapes and fashioned them into a dress.
Trend in makeup: I was loving the red lip look tonight ie. Meryl Streep

What I'm Loving Right Now: Camel colored handbags!
I just purchased a really cute handbag by Hype from endless.com so cute! I am loving the beige/camel tone purses. The good thing about this shade of purse is that it's so versatile you can wear it through the rest of winter and into spring and summer, it's the new must have color to go with your staples black and brown. You can find a bag in a variety of prices, I really liked this Hype bag because it was on sale and real leather!

New Year-Old Trends
It's 2010 and there are always new trends to love and there are always some we need to forget. One of them is Ed Hardy-Unless you idolize Jon Gosselin, stop wearing this tired designer. Another overdone trend that has hit it's expiration, anything that looks tatooed, you know these shirts they have wings and such and image prints all over- This motor chic look is done let it go (I'm not talking about studded bags and such that are very IN). The rhinestone blinged out trend needs a rest as well, you know the rhinestone belts and such that were all the rage for the California glam look, well it's time to say goodbye. Trends are fun for a reason embrace them and let them go when their time has passed and you'll always stay stylish and classy!
2010 Hit the Closet!
Well another year has gone by and it's the perfect time to clear our your closet and say goodbye to the old and shop for the new! The rule for going through your closet is if you haven't worn it in a year get rid of it! Try on all your clothes and check for fit and wear. Check your whites-Every year I always buy new tanks, long sleeve, and short sleeve basics in this must have shade due to spills and stains. Buy cheap basics that way you don't feel bad throwing them out when they go bad. If something doesn't fit quite right, assess whether or not it's worth getting it altered if not say goodbye because you won't wear it if it doesn't fit right. Since we are still getting through the recession, while you go through your clothes try to mix and match and come up with new outfit ideas to make your wardrobe new again! Get organized! Take the time to carefully refold and organize your closet once you've gone through it and you'll be ready for 2010!

Holiday Dressing!
It's that time of year when Holiday parties abound, so now what do you wear!
My recommendations start with sequin sparkles, what better time of year and probably only time you have an excuse to wear sequins (except in Vegas of course) so go out and get a glam gold or black dress (please no other colors). The dress pictured middle is from Phillip Lim and absolutely a gorgeous cut, I like a flowy cut with sequins it updates the look a little. If you can't afford Phillip Lim, Arden B makes the great gold dress with a flowy bow. You can get the little black sequin dress at Dillards, I like this dress because it is fitted and cut short but covers you up top. That's the key, if you go short you don't go low cut. As I've recommended before, one shoulders are a beautiful option for any formal occasion, try a dress in a jewel tone for a perfect holiday look like the Blue dress pictured by Adrianna Papell at Nordstroms. I love the one shoulder with a long sleeve too! So sophisticated! Try this one in black from Lucca Couture available at Nordstroms. For shoes to go with sequined dresses wear coordinating gold strappy sandal or a plum or red satin pump. For black sequin try a nude patent pump. Keep accessories simple when wearing a sequin dress.
